Spring-Loaded Devices

Index plungers are heavy-duty assemblies featuring a retractable, spring-loaded plunger and a corresponding locating bushing (sold separately). Tapered Index Plungers have a 15° taper on the plunger tip that matches the taper in the bushing, facilitating easier alignment and preventing binding during retraction. A straight plunger option is also available for slightly better positional accuracy. The plunger is fully retracted by a rotary-cam action when the handle is rotated 180°, with hardened steel cam surfaces for durability. The standard-mount configuration shown here includes a whistle notch on the Index Plunger to align with a setscrew. This configuration comes in three sizes, offering both inch and metric plunger diameters.

A precision indexing plunger featuring a user-friendly knob handle for easy retraction. The threaded-body model enables adjustable positioning and can be locked in place with an optional jam nut.  It offers exceptional strength and durability in a compact design. The plunger is hardened and ground for added reliability. Available in both locking and non-locking versions.

Spring stop buttons are flange-mounted spring plungers featuring a broad contact surface, making them perfect for applying side pressure to secure a workpiece against its locators until clamps are positioned. They’re also ideal for light clamping tasks. Carr Lane provides three distinct types of spring stop buttons along with compatible spring stop button adapters to suit various applications. All of Carr Lane’s spring stop buttons come in three size options.

Spring Locating Pins are press-fit components designed to provide a compact solution for applying side force to a workpiece, ideal for positioning or light clamping. This range of Spring-Loaded Locating Pins are crafted from materials like Steel, Stainless Steel, and Delrin®. These pins come in five body diameter sizes, ranging from ¼” to 5/8”, and are available in light, medium, and heavy force options across most sizes.

Short Spring Plungers with Extended Travel feature the same body length as a Short Spring Plunger but offer the longer stroke of a standard Spring Plunger. This self-contained plunger and spring device comes in various sizes and includes a locking element to ensure the unit stays securely in place after installation. It can be installed and adjusted from either side.

Press-fit ball plungers are perfect for use in softer materials like aluminium, wood, or plastic. They are ideal when a threaded hole isn't feasible or when no adjustment is needed. The sturdy shoulder ensures a secure seating position and effectively resists detent force. The installation hole can be counterbored to accommodate the shoulder. They are available in four different versions including steel stainless, steel steal with Delrin ball and stainless steel with Delrin ball

Eccentric Liners can be paired with Spring Locating Pins to offer extra adjustment for workpieces with looser tolerances. They are compatible with all three force types and are available to fit any of the five sizes of Spring Locating Pins, ranging from 1/4" to 5/8" body diameter.

These Hand-retractable plungers feature a locking mechanism that secures it in the retracted position. The pull ring enables fast activation and can be tucked away when not in use. To lock the plunger, simply pull the ring back and twist it 90°. Available in thread sizes ranging from 1/4-20 to 1/2-13 and offered in both steel and stainless steel.

The extended locking pull ring hand-retractable plunger distinctive, quick-release pull pin securely locks in the extended position. The plunger tip is designed to retract manually, locking automatically in the forward position without relying on spring tension.  It has a slight taper for easy alignment during use.

Due to their self-retaining design, these press-fit ball plungers can be easily installed into a standard drilled hole. The slotted end of the thermoplastic body expands to compensate hole tolerances of up to .008" oversize. The sturdy shoulder ensures a secure seating position and effectively resists detent force. The installation hole can be counterbored to accommodate the shoulder. They are available in four sizes, from 3/16 to 1" diameter.

 These Hand-retractable plungers feature a locking mechanism that secures it in the retracted position. To lock the plunger, simply pull the ring back and twist it 90°. It has a slight taper for easy alignment during use. The threaded-stud version shown here is compatible with nearly any type of knob handle (knob handle must be ordered separately). If desired, knob handles can be permanently fastened using thread-locking adhesive. This version is available in steel with thread sizes ranging from #10-32 to 5/8-11 (M6 to M12 in metric), and also in stainless steel with the same thread size options.
